Starting with version 2.4.0, Xopero ONE allows you to perform full image-level backups of Linux systems. When it comes to Windows environments, the key new feature is the support for AES encryption compliant with the enterprise-grade US FIPS standards. Active Directory integration via LDAP is a welcome, convenient addition for each backup admin, regardless of protected workloads.

As usual, you can also count on a number of extra improvements.

Dive into the full breakdown below.

Bulk protection of complete Linux environments

If you have a large fleet of Linux-based devices, you can quickly protect them in full by performing an image-level backup with Xopero ONE. All you need to do is select the devices or device groups you want to secure and add them to your backup plan.

The image-level backup of Linux systems also comes handy if you want to fully protect Linux-based virtual machines (within unsupported hypervizors) and network SAN storage arrays.

FIPS-compliant encryption for enterprise-grade compliance

Backup plans using AES-CBC encryption can now leverage the new FIPS mode. Once enabled, all encryption operations are performed using modules validated for compliance with FIPS standards by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), an American federal agency.

Thanks to FIPS-compliant encryption, backups of devices protected with a Windows-based backup agent ensure a higher level of compliance with cybersecurity regulations. It’s a feature that enterprise organizations and regulated industries will especially benefit from.

Active Directory integration: greater convenience and emergency authentication

Xopero ONE and GitProtect integrate with Microsoft’s Active Directory (AD) directory service via the LDAP protocol. This integration brings a number of benefits for you, including:

  • automated user provisioning during login,
  • the ability to map AD groups to administrative roles in Xopero ONE and GitProtect, and
  • emergency authentication in case AD becomes unavailable.

Management console with the German language support

The user interface of the management console for Xopero ONE and GitProtect has been translated into German. This ensures a seamless, native-like experience for all users across the DACH markets.

Full protection of QA processes in Azure DevOps

The key new feature in terms of the DevOps workloads is the ability to protect Test Plan objects in Azure DevOps. You can now back up entire Test plans and Test suites, including test case assignments, configurations, and execution history.

As a result, QA processes in Azure DevOps are fully protected, and—in the event of a failure or attack—your code deployment can proceed according to plan and without surprises.

Other improvements

Other noteworthy enhancements in the 2.4.0 release include:

  • Support for a new pre-backup script argument (__XOPERO_BACKUP_TYPE__) allowing you to automatically execute specific actions depending on the recognized backup type.
  • Case sensitivity support in the SharePoint site and template search engine for even more efficient and convenient searching of resources to protect.
  • Detailed installer event logging for remote agent update processes on Windows systems to improve troubleshooting and analyses.
  • A redesigned mechanism for excluding Git repositories from backup to ensure better transparency and control.
  • Improved stability for backup and restore processes in Azure DevOps and Jira environments.

The full list of changes is available in the 2.4.0 release changelog.

The 2.4.0 release: broader support and enhanced security

While preparing the latest release, we focused on what matters most to our users—more comprehensive and secure protection.

Image-level backup for Linux systems allows you to fully and quickly secure entire environments where open-source solutions are preferred. FIPS-compliant encryption ensures enterprise-grade security and compliance. Active Directory integration means greater convenience for backup administrators. And QA processes in Azure DevOps are now protected just like source code.
