Xopero QNAP Appliance. It is a local backup software, installable directly on QNAP NAS. Together with QNAP, Xopero forms a backup appliance which uses QNAP as a backup storage. It delivers such functionality as disaster recovery, bare metal recovery, Smart Virtualization Stick (SVS) and allows you to backup:

  • Files&folders, Outlook emails and VHD from endpoints.

Lifetime license is valid for a ‘lifetime’. It doesn’t have an expiration date. It includes a technical support (upgrade, update and maintenance) for one year which can be renewed.

Subscription is a time-limited license, usually monthly or yearly. Depends on the chosen plan the application works throughout the whole subscription period and it includes technical support (maintenance, upgrade and update).

What is Smart Virtualization Stick (SVS)? ico

Smart Virtualization Stick (SVS) is a Xopero’s technology - a USB flash drive which offers two options of system recovery - bare metal recovery (restoring the whole system on any device) and virtual recovery (running broken system on any device as virtual machine).

What is Xopero Control Panel? ico

It is a panel which you can access from your QNAP after Xopero instalation. It displays the basic information about your backups, disc space, etc. You can also download Xopero applications (desktop application, CLI application, Management Center) for there and manage your license.

How do I know that the update is available for Xopero QNAP Appliance and how do I get it? ico

After you log into your QNAP you will see the green button under Xopero icon that the update is available. After updating Xopero on QNAP your Management Center application will be updated automatically after logging in. Agent applications require the restart of the Xopero_backupagent service. Just log out from the application, restart the service and login to your agent. Instead of manually restarting the service you can also restart your device.

Both of them have the full functionality and allows you to backup files&folders, Outlook, Exchange, MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Firebird databases, System State, network locations and Hdd image from one physical server. Server Agent Basic is compatible with all Linux servers and MS Smal Business, MS Essentials and MS Foundation Servers. Server Agent Pro is compatible with the mentioned operating systems and also MS Standard Edition, MS Advance Edition, MS Enterprise Edition, MS Datacenter Edition, MS Web Edition.

What is Virtual Agent and what does it do? ico

There are two types of Virtual Agent. Depends on the type It allows you to backup Hyper-V or VMware virtual machines. The license is granted per host - it means that one Virtual Agent (for example Hyper-V) gives you the possibility to backup unlimited number of Hyper-V machines from one host.

Is Xopero QNAP Appliance sold as perpetual license or subscription? ico

It is possible to purchase both - lifetime license or yearly subscription.

Is my license valid for any QNAP device? ico

No, the license is associated with your QNAP SN and it will only work with this device.

Is it possible to switch license to another QNAP device? ico

Case no 1. I want to change my backup storage (QNAP).
Yes, it is possible to deactivate the old license and generate the new one in case such as failure of original device for instance. However we require documentation of such fact. In order to do so, please contact our support team under the following link.

Case no 2. I want to backup the other device(e.g. I bought a new laptop and I don’t need to backup the old one any more).
Yes, it is possible. You have to delete the unwanted device from the device list assigned to the particular user and add the desired one. Keep in mind that you will not be able to restore the backed up data from the deleted devices. We recommend that before you delete the unwanted device from the list, you restore these backed up data to the new device.
