Xopero ONE and GitProtect 2.2.0: Refreshed Dashboard, New Onboarding Experience, and AES-GCM Encryption
The version 2.2.0 comes with a refreshed main dashboard and a new onboarding process. Every backup can now be protected with more secure and efficient AES-GCM encryption. As for GitHub backup, the support for GitHub Enterprise Cloud with Data Residency is a major update.
The latest release also includes a number of enhancements that will make your backups more comprehensive, precise, and easy to manage.
Let’s dive into the new features.
Improved User Experience
The updated main dashboard and the new onboarding experience are the most immediate changes you’ll see.
Refreshed Dashboard
The dashboard is the place you land immediately after logging in to the Xopero ONE / GitProtect management console. It enables centralized, real-time insight into the entire backup environment as well as its monitoring.
The refreshed dashboard is clearer, letting you track compliance, SLA, recent backup tasks, and important notifications at a glance.
A new Storage tile displays 3 of your storages along with their capacity. With quick-action buttons, you can instantly view all available storages or add a new one.

New Onboarding Experience
The onboarding process shows up, once you’ve added a new type of resource to protect (e.g., a Hyper-V host) to the management console. With the new experience, you get all the necessary information about the resource, backup plan settings, task monitoring, and data restoration, which makes configuration easier.

Modern and Efficient AES-GCM Encryption
Starting from version 2.2.0, you can use the AES-GCM encryption. It is a standard recommended by NIST and ENISA that’s compliant with the NIS2 directive requirements.
It offers the following benefits:
- AES-GCM combines encryption with authentication. It generates an Authentication Tag (MAC), which proves that no one has modified your backup data.
- It enables fast & parallel data processing, improving backup efficiency.
AES-GCM is now the recommended encryption method for the users of our backup software.

Backup of GitHub Enterprise Cloud with Data Residency
Support for GitHub Enterprise Cloud (GHEC) with Data Residency is a major new feature for organizations that prioritize data sovereignty and security. It should be especially interesting for entities from regulated industries, such as banking, healthcare, or gov.
GHEC with Data Residency is a specialized version of the GitHub cloud that ensures a high & professional degree of data isolation to meet stringent legal requirements (of GDPR or US government agencies, for example).
Xopero ONE / GitProtect is now the only solution on the market supporting the backup of GHEC with Data Residency.

Other Enhancements and Fixes
The remaining notable changes include:
- VMware: We improved reliability by implementing extra fail-safe mechanisms to handle connection and read errors for virtual machine backup.
- Jira: Restored Jira comments now include original author information to enable easier identification.
- GitHub: We added the option to exclude closed pull requests and issues to speed up the backup of data and reduce throttling.
- Azure DevOps: We extended the scope of protected data to include so-called related work links. Copies now include links to both parent and child tasks.
- Azure DevOps: We’ve added support for Azure DevOps to the Xopero ONE / GitProtect API to enable programmatic backup management for this platform.
- The Location column of the storage list now displays precise information about the data residency for our cloud service, Xopero Cloud Storage.
