Efficient backup versioning and retention
Backup versioning allows you to store and restore the previous state of protected data sets. That backup versioning and retention rules are defined while creating a backup plan.
You as the user can define the retention rules in three ways:
- by indicating the number of copies you want to keep,
- by indicating the time of each copy to be kept in the storage. Those parameters are set separately for the full, differential, and incremental backup.
- by disabling rules, i.e. keeping all versions.
There are two important assumptions about the backup versioning - we never delete the latest version and Xopero ONE will always make sure not to disturb the continuity of the version chains.
